What Everyone Does

While this belief was becoming the new normal, it materialized into books, papers and other documents. Of the most discussed is the so-called Kalergi plan, which should be called the Kalergi vision, because no real blueprint was made. From the 1920s, Coudenhove-Kalergi promoted his concept to abolish nations and to create a single global folk with the same brownish skin who would be members of a single global civilization. It may sound like the work of a madman, but Count Kalergi was supported by many important personalities, including Albert Einstein. Kalergi died in 1972 regarded as a highly respected humanist.

There are rumors about a supplement to the Kalergi work explaining that the newly created race should combine high working morale and low intelligence, to be suitable for factory work. However, this document has never been found; I am afraid we’re looking at fake news here. Nevertheless, if Kalergi wrote something like that, it would be ridiculous. Factories also need highly qualified people and not just a dumb mass. Further, nobody knows why or how the mixing of races would result in a dutiful and laborious people with a low IQ.

The ease of general acceptance for Kalergi’s ideas is more striking. Kalergi’s vision was accepted because it wasn’t revolutionary. Most members of elites supported the same view and they still do. It met very similar opinions — so similar that many people might think that top managers, bureaucrats and activists are Kalergi’s students or even members of a secret Kalergi circle. The reality is simpler; Kalergi’s thinking was typical of his social class, therefore everyone thought like this.
